Job Description Position Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / MDS CoordinatorReports To: Administrator and Director of NursingFacility Type: Long-Term Care / Skilled Nursing Facility Position Summary The ADON/MDS Coordinator is a dual-role leadership position responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in managing clinical operations and overseeing the facility’s Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process, including completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS). This individual ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, supports quality of care initiatives, and helps maintain efficient clinical operations while promoting resident-centered care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) * Assist the DON in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing services. * Support the DON in recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating nursing staff. * Ensure compliance with nursing standards, facility policies, state/federal regulations, and infection control practices. * Monitor resident care and clinical outcomes to ensure quality and safety. * Serve as a role model for professional nursing practice and resident advocacy. * Assist in scheduling nursing staff and ensuring adequate staffing levels. * Act as a resource and mentor to charge nurses and CNAs. * Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities. * Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the DON. MDS Coordinator * Oversee and manage the completion of accurate and timely MDS assessments for all residents in accordance with CMS guidelines. * Coordinate interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and ensure input from all disciplines. * Monitor care planning processes and ensure individualized, resident-centered care plans are developed, implemented, and updated. * Educate staff on the RAI/MDS process and care planning requirements. * Review and validate data submitted to ensure accuracy for reimbursement and compliance. * Track and manage MDS schedules to ensure timeliness. * Maintain knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulations, PPS, and case-mix systems. * Collaborate with business office and billing departments to ensure accurate reimbursement. Qualifications * Current RN license in good standing (required). * Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a long-term care setting (required). * Previous experience with MDS 3.0, care planning, and RAI process (required). * Leadership or supervisory experience (preferred). * Strong knowledge of federal and state LTC regulations. * Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. * Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively. Physical Requirements * Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the day. * Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally. * Visual and auditory acuity for assessing residents and reviewing documentation. Work Schedule * Full-time, typically Monday–Friday. * Must be available for occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call coverage as needed.
