Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist supports all aspects of workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance. This role focuses on ensuring safe work practices, regulatory compliance, employee training, and continuous improvement of EHS programs across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote safe work practices across the site
  • Monitor Job Safety Analyses and safety permit processes to ensure proper execution
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Assist in developing and implementing site-specific safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular site observations and provide coaching for safety compliance
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver safety and environmental training programs
  • Perform audits and inspections in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Lead new employee and contractor orientation and task-specific training
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, RCRA, HAZMAT, and other relevant regulations
  • Investigate and report all incidents, injuries, and near-misses
  • Support inspections and audits conducted by regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, DOT, FAA)
  • Maintain and track required certifications for site personnel (e.g., forklift operation, CPR/First Aid)
  • Adapt to various job duties and changing priorities as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; 2 years of experience in an EHS role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety preferred
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local EHS regulations
  • Minimum 2 years of safety and environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant setting preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet-based tools
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
