Faculty, Anthropology (Cross Over Disciplines) Position Title: Faculty, Anthropology (Cross Over Disciplines) Status: Full time Tenure Track Department: Social & Behavioral Sciences Division: Arts & Sciences Classification: Exempt Union: Faculty-AFT Local 604 Reports To: Department Chair Placement: Salary schedule dependent on qualifications Hiring Range (2025/2026): $61,912 – $110,322 annually (9 months) (competitive starting pay dependent on education & experience) Position Summary: This is a full‑time tenure position at a community college. Applicants must adapt to new and changing situations, demonstrate a positive attitude, respect students, understand learning styles, and promote diversity and open communication. The normal teaching load is fifteen contact hours a semester (thirty per year). Course assignments may include late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and teaching at branch campuses or satellite centers. Essential Job Duties and Key Responsibilities Fifteen (15) contact hours per semester; thirty (30) contact hours per year of assigned introductory and advanced classes in Anthropology and/or crossover SBS discipline; five (5) office hours per week required. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities. Participate in departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees. Assist students with academic advising when necessary. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission. Teach at other campus sites as needed. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to teach the assigned course load and keep informed of developments in related areas. Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and community needs. Implement a teaching style and utilize instructional technologies that will best meet student needs and accomplish the objectives of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Anthropology. Completion of an additional 18 graduate‑level credit hours in one of: Sociology, Psychology, Education, or History. Two years (2) experience teaching at the college level. Ability to teach a range of courses in Anthropology and crossover discipline. Familiarity with online, hybrid, and in‑person instructional methods. Experience in course development, assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service. Experience with traditional and non‑traditional students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in Sociology. Completion of an additional 18 graduate‑level credit hours in another Social and Behavioral Science discipline. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency. Demonstrated multicultural competence. Proficiency in technology for teaching, such as learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
