Job Description

DigitalOcean is looking for a Software Development Manager to keep our cloud running smoothly. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Resiliency and leads an uptimefocused team that delivers automation to keep our products healthy. The ideal candidate has a growth mindset, loves to think big, and thrives in a fastpaced, disruptive industry.

We want people who are passionate about troubleshooting complex problems with systems, networking, and storage at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and lead a highly collaborative engineering team.
  • Help the team achieve higher standards of performance and product quality.
  • Introduce and improve processes for team performance and qualityoflife.
  • Collaborate with product owners and crossfunctional teams to design idiomatic, featurerich, and operationally sustainable software solutions.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of automated processes and tools to improve operational efficiency.
  • Facilitate transparent, constructive communication and fair, growthoriented distribution of responsibilities among team members.
  • Provide coaching and counseling through mentoring, oneonone meetings, etc.
  • Ensure maximum uptime for our global infrastructure.
  • Coordinate operational work across teams to improve the platform with minimal impact.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems or networking.
  • A passion for leading, coaching, and mentoring software engineers.
  • Enduring interest in distributed systems design, AI/ML, and implementation at scale in the cloud.
  • Experience researching, evaluating, and building with opensource technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in cloud development, such as Python and Go.
  • Experience with infrastructureascode (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience with various GPU platforms from AMD and NVIDIA and associated toolsets for tuning, configuring, and accelerating workloads on them (ideal but not required).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, VPCs, subnets, routing) and storage systems.
  • A strong sense of ownership and a drive to figure out and resolve any issues preventing you and your team from delivering value to customers.
  • Familiarity with endtoend quality best practices and their implementation.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $151,700 $189,600.
  • This is a remote role.
