While partnering with a Medical Assistant, the Trainee will perform job-related duties as delegated by and under the general supervision of the clinician and Registered Nurse. The Medical Assistant Trainee will assist in meeting the individual and age-specific needs of the patients and families/significant others with the primary goal of extending the student experience and focusing on learning opportunities related to basic functions of the Medical Assistant role. This is a temporary role that will last up to eighteen months.

Major Responsibilities:

• Completes Gundersen Health Systems (GHS) orientation and education requirements, maintains competency and practices and contributes to the GHS Mission and Strategic Plan.
• Enrolls in the Gundersen medical assistant program within one month of hire and advances through the program's curriculum while simultaneously completing competency verification for applicable skills.
• Performs responsibilities according to GHS's phased Medical Assistant Trainee's competency-based learning and tiered skills acquisition model (TSAM).
• Assists patients with transportation to appointed departments by safely utilizing wheelchairs and proper body mechanics.
• Demonstrates respect for each individual through providing person centered care.
• Uses effective, authentic communication skills while interacting with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
• Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
• Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
• Ensures patient safety.

Education and Learning: REQUIRED

• High School Diploma or equivalency
• Medical Assistant program completion within eighteen months of hire

Work Experience: REQUIRED

• No experience required
• DESIRED Six months experience in a healthcare setting

License and Certifications: REQUIRED

• Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross needed within 6 weeks of hire.
