The Radiology Technical Assistant is a member of the Radiology Patient Care team. The Radiology Technical Assistant transports and prepares patients, cleans and stocks supplies in assigned areas, and assists technologists as needed. This position utilizes McKesson Radiology Manager (MRM) and Hospital Information System (HIS) software programs, and assists with Computed Radiology (CR) processing.
Moves or transports patients between hospital departments via wheelchair or stretcher or beds. Initiates and follows through with proper hand-off of patients. Reports to nursing personnel prior to transporting and upon return of patient.
Uses portable O tanks and regulates O flow. Practices good infection control in accordance with related policies. Complies with radiation safety protocols.
Greets patients and families to ensure comfort by utilizing Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you (AIDET) technique. Attends to patients needs and promptly reports to a Technologist if unable to accommodate request. Uses the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) tool to communicate with the Nurse and/or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) before transporting every patient.
Uses patient identifiers. Ensures call bell is given to each patient along with verbal instructions. Answers telephone and refers calls to the proper areas.
Assists the technologist in the imaging room by lifting and moving the patient while assuring patient dignity and comfort. Maintains cleanliness and neatness of equipment and work area. Transports patients to/from imaging using appropriate body mechanics and devices.
Assists the technologist as needed during imaging procedures. Cleans equipment after every patient per the Infection Control Policy. Ensures supplies are available, stocked in appropriate areas, work areas are maintained in a clean and organized manner.
Prepares CDs. Demonstrates an awareness of appropriate confidentiality rules and regulations and acts accordingly. Provides care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served.
Other duties as assigned. Preferred : High school diploma or equivalent. Required Certification & Licensures: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
