Position OverviewThe Transportation Services Office Student Assistant position is responsible for providing customer service for Parking business office staff, including explaining parking rules and regulations, counseling customers regarding citations received, verifying tow releases, and assistance with directions to various buildings and parking lots on campus. Position may also answer occasional random transit questions via phone and email.Job DescriptionOffice Duties 90%:
- Answering phones and responding to email.
- Printing and stuffing billing notices.
- Light clerical duties, such as filing and copying.
- May be asked to assist with game operations as needed.
- Providing customer service to walk-in customers.
Other duties as assigned: 10%Required QualificationsAs evidenced by application materials and interview: - Meets University of Kansas enrollment criteria.
- Problem solving and organizational skills as demonstrated in the application materials.
- Fluent English and excellent communication skills as demonstrated in the application materials.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel as demonstrated in the application materials.
Preferred Qualifications - Telephone and customer service experience, with ability to deal courteously and efficiently with the public, and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service to callers as demonstrated in the application materials.
- Familiarity with the campus (to give directions) and the campus parking system.
- Functional fluency in a foreign language, such as Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese.
- Ability to work independently as demonstrated in the application materials.
- Work-study eligibility.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
