Title: Van Driver

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hours: 5-10 hours on call basis, bulk of hours are August-May

Position Reports to: Director of Athletics

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Backup is: None

1. Basic Function

The Van Driver is responsible for operating a University van safely to transport members of the Athletics Team, and Staff via fixed route from a designated parking lot to games, tournaments, events or other designated location; performing daily pre- and post-trip vehicle checks and inspections and documenting and reporting any maintenance issues.

1. Essential Functions

1. Pick up and drop off student athletes at designated locations
2. Follow a planned route according to a time schedule
3. Obey traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
4. Perform basic maintenance (check the bus tires, lights, and oil)
5. Keep passengers informed of possible delays
6. Report, within 24 hours, if Driver’s License status has been affected by suspension, revocation, cancellation, lost privilege, or disqualification.
7. Report lost/found property for any items left in vehicle.
8. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

1. Qualifications

Knowledge: High school diploma or GED preferred; and possess a Maryland or other state issued Driver’s License.

Experience: At least two years of experience driving any type of vehicle with a good driving record.

Skills/Aptitude: Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to keep a schedule. The ability to follow detours and find different ways to events. Must have the ability to drive in all types of weather. Experience working with older adults is preferred. This position requires the employee to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

2. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions

3. Evening or variable hours

4. Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease and gases

5. Driving a vehicle to conduct work

6. Ability to drive over 200 miles each way

7. Must be available for a period up to 1 full weekend
